steve <tya71@bellatlantic.net> -- 04/30/98 -- 07:19:51I first heard TYA in 1969[I was 14 then] and the first time I saw them was at The Filmore East on April 20, 1971.[I still got the ticket stub. The last time I saw Alvin was 1994 at a small joint in New Jersey called Club Bene. That's where a lot of yesteryear guitar greats play. A few of who I saw: Rory Gallagher[hi Judi~], Robin Trower, Johnny Winter, Leslie West etc...Anyway back to one of if not the best guitar players around,Mr. A. LEE . When I saw him at Club Bene, after the show a bunch of us hung around outside for about a half hour or so and rapped with him. I even got him to sign two autographs for me. One on a piece of paper and another on one of his shirts I bought[Am I suppose to still act that way at 39 yrs old in 94.F---ing "A" I am.] There is one thing that bummed me out was, I never heard him play "Spider In My Web" or "Me And My Baby". Oh well. Anyway, A.Lee,Rory G. and SRV thanks for the memories. ROCK ON!!! Gary Bear <BeachBlues@AOL.COM> -- 04/29/98 -- 12:12:11Ten Years After Rule !!!! Always have and always will !!!! I have enjoyed you at least thirty times in concert. The last time I saw you was on your About Time tour in NYC. I used to wait at the Filmore East when the show was over. You guys always came out and got in the limo, and we waited to try to talk to you. But when you came out and we saw you, I was star struck; when I opened my mouth, nothing came out. I saw you again at the airport in Canada after the Strawberry Fields Festival and still couldn't talk! Your voice has gotten deeper over the years; you sound better than ever. When you and the band are in the NY/NJ area, contact me. We'll make you dinner and serve your preferred libation. I just hit 50 in March and I hope the last voice I hear is yours. Love ya'. Keep up the good work. Sincerely, Frank L. DeChino. Frank DeChino <pasta48@aol.com> -- 04/21/98 -- 20:12:32Alvin, I saw you in 1968 at the Filmore East. It was an English concert with John Mayall. I have been a fan since then. I saw you at the Filmore West, I saw you in NY in around 1990 in the About Time tour. I've seen you about thirty times. I look forward to seeing you again. If you're ever in the NJ area, email me and you and the boys can come over for dinner and a beer or two or three. Maybe we'll have a spot of tea. Your voice has gotten deeper; it sounds great. Having grown up with your music, it's of my opinion that you were and still are the greatest guitarist I've yet to hear. I have all of your albums from Cricklewood Green on up, and I've yet to tire of listening to them. If by some quirk of fate you read this think seriously about a concert in Kamloops British Columbia. We would love to hear your sound again live, and I speak for every Rock'n'Roll fan from here to Vancouver. I'm 34yrs old now, but my first true experience with a girl at the age of 14yrs old was was mutiplied many times with the sound of your voice and the exceedingly prowess of your guitar playing in the background. It's a memory I'll never forget nor want to. Peace to you Alvin; Sincerely David Naylor. Heiko Gross <henrygro@hotmail.com> -- 04/01/98 -- 10:00:04My Dad showed me 5 years ago a tape of Ten Years After. And I start to listen more often to Ten Years After. 2 years ago I started playing guitar and now I'm learning so much I can from Alvin Lee. My favourite song is "Love like a man" but all the other are pretty damn good. I hope you guys come to Germany after June, 98. Because I'm right now an exchange student in Kansas. Kansas is sucks. But I have my Gibson here and practice alot. Thanks for your good tabs. Sharon <scotone@bellsouth.net> -- 03/31/98 -- 20:38:08I was first introduced to TYA by friends who had just returned from serving in Thailand. The songs on Positive Vibrations meant so much to them and through them to me. Even today when I listen the words ring so true to the past and the present.Maybe the hall of fame would be a great accomplishment and honor, but I think the real accomplishment is that through their music they helped some guys who saw some really bad things to maintain and give themselves some "Positive Vibrations". As a guitar player in my own right, I was blown away. I was fortunate to see the band four more times between then and March 1973, all in Berlin, Germany. The concerts included the Berlin Superfest, which featured TYA with: Procol Harem, when Robin Trower was with the group; Canned Heat, on the same day they found Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson dead in California; and Jimi Hendrix, in what proved to be Jimi's last "live" concert. The group was always a class act, taking time to acknowledge their fans. Some years later, as a working reporter with a Maine daily newspaper, I met Alvin backstage before an appearance at Bangor Auditorium. He was heading Ten Years Later, then, and the audience was small. But Alvin and crew came out and burned the house down. I've played guitar for more than 30 years now and Alvin's influence on my style is hard to miss. Only a handful of guitarists have ever made me stop and take notice, and Alvin stands at the head of the class. He is truly an original. Alvin and TYA deserve induction in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame. They've paid their dues and their influence on a generation of blues-based rockers cannot be overlooked. Rock On. Jim SHeridan <jimsheridan@yahoo.com> -- 02/28/98 -- 20:23:35 ANyone who likes Ten Years After should check out the CD "ZEPHYR: LIVE" - it features the very amazing Tommy Bolin who does apretty great "I'm Going Home." The concerts included the Berlin Superfest, which featured TYA with: Procol Harem, when Robin Trower was with the group; Canned Heat, on the same day they found Alan "Blind Owl" Wilson dead in California; and Jimi Hendrix, in what proved to be Jimi's last "live" concert. Rock On. Jim SHeridan <jimsheridan@yahoo.com> -- 02/28/98 -- 20:23:35 ANyone who likes Ten Years After should check out the CD "ZEPHYR: LIVE" - it features the very amazing Tommy Bolin who does apretty great "I'm Going Home." His playing on "LIVE AT EBBETS FIELD 1974" is amazing too. I see a lot of similarities between his playing and ALvin Lee's at that point. Any Bolin fans out there? Steve Kirkpatrick <skirk456@aol.com> -- 02/26/98 -- 13:44:32TYA should definately be in the R & R Hall of Fame. Great songwriting, great playing. I rank "A Space In Time" as one of the all time great albums put out at that time. Owen O'Connor <ooconnor@hotmail.com> -- 02/24/98 -- 04:41:50Did you know that Alvin Lee guested on the Jerry Lee Lewis London Sessions album. The musical director was Albert Lee visit the unofficial Albert Lee site at http://homepage.tinet.ie/~johnwoconnor/albertlee Dave rennolds <DRennolds@aol.com> -- 02/22/98 -- 04:55:14I saw TYA 29 years ago. Nobody has the technical ability of Alvin Lee, Clapton is sweet and Hendrix was weird but none can play like Alvin Lee. Vincent L. <vlaberge@yahoo.com> -- 02/16/98 -- 14:14:18I LOVE TYA AND I WOULD LOVE TO FIND THE FOLLOWING ALBUMS: 1)LET IT ROCK 2) ROCKET FUEL 3)ON THE ROAD TO FREEDOM 4) IN FLIGHT IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAS ANY OF THESE ALBUMS AND WOULD BE WILLING TO MAKE A COPY FOR ME THAT WOULD BE GREAT. OTHERWISE IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME HOW TO GET A HOLD OF THEM, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. MY FAVORITE ALBUM IS ROCK & ROLL MUSIC TO THE WORLD, AND I LOVE POSITIVE VIBRATIONS TOO........HELL EVERY ALBUM ROCKS. I WOULD LOVE TO SEE TEN YEARS AFTER IN WINNIPEG BUT IT PROBABLY WON'T HAPPEN, BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO. Peter <tay911@erols.com> -- 02/15/98 -- 13:49:37Alvin Lee should definetly be in the Hall of Fame. He's still one of the faster players alive. But the notes just arn't fast, they have emotion. Not just "look how fast I play". I'd love to see him do Crossroads, thats right up his ally. There just arn't to many like him, great guitarist and singer. I think that gets over looked. He sings his ass off sometimes. Nice site and the Tab for going Home is great. Im a guitarist and have been in a band for years. Ive messed with the song but never got it quite right. Thanks for the forem. Im Going Home. There's a lot of great things happening and Alvin's going to ROCK this web! TYA Together Your Awesome Vinny Holland <vjsports@cloud9.net> -- 01/30/98 -- 17:27:29I've been a longtime fan of Alvin Lee and Ten Years After. Saw them in concert in the early 70's in the NYC area 3 times. The best was a soccer field in the Bronx called Gallic Park at the height of his I'm Going Home days. My first good guitar was an ES335 in homage to Alvin Lee. Unfortunately I'm as slow as molasses (Unlike Alvin) on guitar but that leads me to the rest of the blues. KEEP ON ROCKING YOUNG MAN. jim Smith <videorock@aol.com> -- 01/16/98 -- 09:55:27As a fan for many years, I am happy to have found a home page to one of the most overlooked blues guitarists. I live in NY and first caught TYA in the woodstock film and was totally blown away by his performance. I saw TYA's last performance at the Fillmore East. I saw them perform at Madison Square Garden where I sat in the Orchestra. There was a giant video screen above the band showing closeups during the performance. I also saw them perform at , I think it was called Roosevelt Field in the Bronx. And lastly I saw Alvin Lee & company at the Accademy of music oor whatever the venue was named at the time on 14th street in NYC. While I'd Love To Change The world is one of my favorite LP's, I believe SHHHHHH and notabally Two time Mamma is a gem of an album. Stone Temple Piolets and Alice in Chains quite possibly listened to that album. And if it's the blues you want Undead ant their version of" good morning little schoolgirl is a killer. If anyone has Tab from SHHHHH e-mail me.TYA should be featured in the Guitar Mags John <john.fietkiewicz@snet.net> -- 01/13/98 -- 15:42:00I think alvin Lee Rocks. I am working on a classic rock and blues site and have inclued this site as one of my links. Because my site is devoted to my favorit classic rock and blues people and Alvin Lee and ten year after is one of them.If you get a moment please stop by my place. It's not much but it's my home. PEACE. :-) Rick Diedrick <raiderrrd@aol.com> -- 01/12/98 -- 00:52:35I have been a fan of Alvin/TYA from way back to the Winterland days. I look foward to when he tours the bay area again. Hans Dubbeld <hans.dubbeld@pi.net> -- 01/09/98 -- 13:26:19It's great to visit the Alvin Lee site. I'm still hoping to see Alvin live in Holland once. My friends son (his name is Alvin (Dirksen)!!)plays the guitar like hell and the best thing that could happen is that Alvin Lee and Alvin Dirsen could play together the blues. Best regards, Hans Emu Master <emu@hotmail.com> -- 01/08/98 -- 09:09:06I am job John R.
