I've seen TYA in concert four times and I can only say they rocked the joint. The 1st time I saw them was the Rock and Roll Music to the World tour.

Are there any plans for Ten Years After to tour the U.S.A. in 98

John <JKenney101@AOL.com> -- 12/17/97 -- 08:52:36

Hello...everyone...Great to see so many people wanting to share/ get info on Alvin. I have seen him since 1968 thru the Blues Shows with Eric Burden. I would love to hear stories from our European counterparts as it seems at times he plays a little different music with you folks compared to here in the states. I once saw him in a nite club that was a converted house..it was like he was playing in your living room..for about 60 people. He played over 2 hrs...and the sweat was "running down the walls"and the music "pounding off the walls". as Alvin likes it. This show as with Alan Young, and Steve Gould. It seems that Alvin ALWAYS has great drummers...and true after Leo, Micket Fe'At, Mick Hawksworth that Steve is a light weight. But having been on the road for a few years..sometimes getting along on the road you may choose to work with people who you can "live" with versus having a more technical bass player is a hassle that Alvin doesn't want to get into. Well glad to hear from folks..everybody.."ROCK ON"

Norman Stephens <123norm@kermode.net> -- 12/16/97 -- 23:41:52

Kristofer K. Engelhardt <dsploger@alpha.delta.edu> -- 12/13/97 -- 21:49:36

I have a book coming out shortly on The Beatles' musical contributions to other artists' recordings. It features a section on Alvin Lee. Can anyone help me get in touch with Alvin to review his section in my book? It is very important that I speak with him concerning his recordings with George Harrison. Please feel free to call me collect at (517) 686-1807 or 671-9478 or fax me at 686-3012

Geoff Cotton <prestogc@es.co.nz> -- 12/07/97 -- 23:57:43

Alvin Lee & Ten Years After are simply magic. Their fusion of blues and rock is unequalled, and at their best they can bring tears to your eyes. Their performance from Woodstock still ranks as just about the most exciting thing I have ever sseen or heard (I say just about, because I can't pick between that and Ritchie Blackmore dealing to the TV camera during the Calafornia Jam!). Alongside Ritchie B, Alvin is the best of the British guitarists to come out of the 60's, and like Ritchie is also massivly underated. Would love to see Alvin & TYA in New Zealand.

Richard Todd Davis <rdavis@cs.wvu.edu> -- 12/07/97 -- 02:49:31

You guys, ten years ago, made sounds that defined rhythm and expression. Your understanding of sound is undertood here.

Jari Lipsanen <jari.lipsanen@pp.inet.fi> -- 12/03/97 -- 10:22:07

One of the Best musicians I know.At the first time I saw Alvin & Ten Years After in London 1989(Hammersmith Odeon) and then couple years later Alvin came here in Helsinki with his own band and was ofcourse great. In this year I was at Jarvenpää Puistoblues Festival and the most reason why I was thereYou can guess.By the way very nice concert!Since begining of 70´s Alvin Lee & Ten Years Later have been very high on my top ranking list of all kind music.

Tim Gallagher <dgallagher@top.monad.net> -- 12/01/97 -- 22:35:53

I first saw TYA at the Boston Tea Party in '68 and they have been one of my favorite bands ever since. I'm glad that I came across this site, for it has stirred my memory of all the great TYA music from my past "space in time". I've got to get my turntable fixxed so I can listen to my Ten Years After albums again.

j loom <joker@globalxs.com> -- 11/29/97 -- 00:46:22

David Naylor <oicu812@mail.junction.net> -- 11/17/97 -- 14:28:58

Just a 33yr old fan who grew up on your sounds. It sure would be fine if you came to Canada to do a gig. "I Think you'd rock this country." Your sound was up with the best; Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Hendrix, and you. (Not necessarily in that order). I amongst many would love to hear your sound again. Sincerely; David. Sincerely; David.

arto toivonen <arto.toivonen@dlc.fi> -- 11/17/97 -- 09:55:41

Creetings from Finland. Couple thougths. Every time when feels bad, I fix it with woodchopper balls with enough volume. I`d like to change world, but I don`t know what to do, so I leave it up to you. Can`t say it better. All the best and merry christmas to Alvin and all you there.

R ick Lee <ricklee@hotcc.com> -- 11/15/97 -- 18:29:32

No relation. I lived in Germany between 1988 and 1990. My wife and I were lucky enough to see TYA 4 times. Alvin is still the best. We met all 4 band members and talked for a while. I have alot of pictures of TYA in concert. Nice web sight.

LINCOLN BARACCAT <ABELEE@TELNET.COM.BR> -- 11/15/97 -- 14:41:47

I STARTED TO PLAY GUITAR (I'M A BRAZILIAN BLUES PLAYER) WHEN I SAW FOR ABOUT 32 TIMES THE WOODSTOCK MOVIE AND I DISCOVER THE REAL SOUL OF BLUES AND BOOGIE IN PERSON OF MR. LEE. GOD SAVE YOU ALVIN AND PROTECT YOUR SPEED FINGERS.

Howie Thornley <howiet@casscom.com> -- 11/15/97 -- 08:05:49

Great site on a great band. TYA kicks ass!

Jim Nelson <jnelson@mid-city.com> -- 11/10/97 -- 15:18:49

I can't believe I stumbled across this web page. I have been a fan of Alvin since 1970. I was fortunate enough to see 10 Years After in Chicago in 1972. It was the greatest concert I had or have seen since. I also saw him again in the late 70's with 10 Years Later, which was the second greatest concert I have ever seen (my ears still are not the same). Alvin's music is still as good to me now as it ever was. Thanks to all of you fans for making my day.

Ryan <skacity_man@hotmail.com> -- 11/08/97 -- 19:29:30

ALVIN ROCKS

Brenda Newman <ssca@viper.net.au> -- 10/28/97 -- 03:35:15

Hi, I wonder if anyone knows what happened to TYA's roadie Andy Johns, I think he went on to produce some other artists. Can anyone out there tell me more. I used to go to the Marquee Club on a Friday night when TYA played there regularly. I even knew them through a mutual acquaintance a girl called Vivian Bidwell (at least I think that was her last name, the memory grows dim). Well hope someone reads my comments. Your site is a good idea, I feel more in touch with those great days of nothing but music, music, music. see ya

Bullock <Chrys1960@aol.com> -- 06/24/97 -- 18:33:04

I discovered Alvin Lee and TYA when I was 12 years old. I'm 37 years old now, and my husband recently underwent abdominal surgery. While he was hospitalized with serious complications, I was sitting by his bedside last May, and Woodstock came on the tube. I told my husband that I always wait to see Alvin and that watermelon. When TYA finally came on, we cranked that TV up and forgot where we were for the moment. When my husband was finally sent home after being in the hospital for 24 days, I sang "I'm Coming Home" to him in the car. That song never sounded so good. This is a true story. We have the bills and scars to prove it!

Harald Meyer <harald.a.meyer@t-online.de> -- 06/21/97 -- 21:18:47

I´m surprised and happy to have found such a good page concerning T.Y.A. Thanks

Frank Charles <frankc@lsil.com> -- 06/16/97 -- 17:01:51

Saw Hot Tuna in San Jose Sat 6/14. Great show. If I can't see Alvin, I'll do with Jorma. He plays great acoustic BLUES! All you blues nuts keep an eye open for these guys. They are on tour in the US. I actually met some people at the show who knew who Alvin was, unusual for San Jose. Oh well, maybe Alvin and Jorma will jam off shore, Jorma has a red 335 Gibson, where did he get that idea?

chuck Howe <c-fhowe@worldnet.att.net> -- 06/15/97 -- 18:47:16

Alvin taught me how to close my eyes and play air guitar.

My best greating to Ten Years After. Last I enjoyed the group at Esbjerg Rock Festival, at May 31. 1997. This concert was simply the best rockconcert I have heart. Special thanks to Alvin Lee. This man is giving 1000 % of himself in concert. That`s real music when it is best. I love this music.

Frank W. Charles <frankc@lsil.com> -- 05/29/97 -- 14:50:32

Toni, just got my first copy of the newsletter, fantastic! Is it possible to get back issues? I looked over the guestbook and saw many fans that feel the same as me. We all can't have Alvin over for dinner or go see him play very often, but, we all have a similar spirit in his talent. As long as he knows he is well appreciated is good enough for me, I can't stop his tunes from playing in my head anyways! Alvin says he is still listening to Elvis, does he think Elvis might be listening to him? What would rock be like if the roles were reversed! Alvin would have left the clown suit in Vegas, and I can't see him eating that many cheese burgers! Rock On and Rock the Net!

Sara Gomez <sabbra@catios.udea.edu.co> -- 05/28/97 -- 10:04:05

I can say that one of the most perfect albums in the rock history is SSSSH, it's totally psycodelic, totally fun! Alvin Lee is for me the most incredible musician ever seen in the rock history! Kisses for him!

Ron Kikuchi <Ron2G@aol.com> -- 05/22/97 -- 08:54:18

I, I should say we, as there were several of us who first saw TYA paly at the old Filmore West in SF. They were playing back-up for Canned Heat. This I am sure was TYA's first appearance in San Francisco. The Bear's comments went something like this: " I don't know who those guys are, but they should be where we are". Since that night we saw TYA everytime they played in our area. Sometimes going for 2 or 3 nights or buying both shows like in Berkley. Then again, most Fillmore shows were only $3.50. Such a deal. We eveh hitch hiked to L.A. to see them play at the Olympic Aud., this was when the Cricklewood Green album was released. Why we hitched I will never know, by friend John, just bought a new MGB-GT and we could have driven..I have managed to save quite of few Fillmore posters for many of the concerts there. Many of them for TYA. My best ones unfortunately were stolen. I have to say the best overall concert we saw had to have been the one with Ike and Tina Turner. But, when you start thinking about it they ALL were great concerts. Only with I could video tape my brain waves and have what we have seen on video. Well, thats all for now..Congrats to the designers and maintainers of this great site. Will return often. Ron

Dave Davies <dave.davies@littlewoods.co.uk> -- 05/22/97 -- 04:23:33

I went to an Ian Hunter concert the other night and afterwards talked to the drummer (Alan Young) who said he had worked with Alvin Lee for some 11 years so here I am finding out some more!

Kirk Alexander <kalex@azstarnet.com> -- 05/21/97 -- 23:56:28

Very cool site indeed! I've been a TYA fan from the beginning. Lost track of them over the years, but Undead has always been one of my favorite albums. I would like to correspond with Chick Churchill. I'm a keyboard player in a blues band, and I've just got to know who he was listening to back in the 60's when the whole thing started. Anyone with any info on this, please respond. Thanks

Henry Kiecman <kiecman@golden.net> -- 05/17/97 -- 21:41:00

Steve Gerson <SGerson101@aol.com> -- 05/17/97 -- 19:12:41

I'd just like to say that I think that Alvin Lee is one of the most fantastic and greatest guitarists that ever came out of England and if and when he decides to tour the U.S can you please let me know. Thanks for all the great memories Alvin and keep on Rockin.

Kurt Stormo <Kurt.Stormo@bygg.ntnu.no> -- 05/16/97 -- 01:07:35

TYA fan since Woodstock. I would like a live-show with TYA. Are they coming to Norway, or do I have to drive to Karlshamn?

Matti Rekonen <matti.rekonen@dmsoft.inet.fi> -- 03/29/97 -- 14:28:43

Hi! Criclewood Green was my first ever album. It was year 1970 and I was 15 years old. Since then I've been Alvin Lee fan. 25 years I thougth that I was the only one in the whole world who loved that music. Now I have noticed that there are many more... Thanks to Toni from this great Web site and to Alvin from his music and guitar playing. I'm glad to hear that TYA will play in Finland next summer. I have twice seen Alvin live in Helsinki, but this will be something special. All the best, Matti.

Douglas Vachon <dougvach@wincom.net> -- 03/27/97 -- 20:15:12

Hi Alvin fans!! I have been a fan since 71 and have seen Alvin lee/Ten Years After in Detroit every time he has been here since 74 (that's quite a few times!) and never once did I ever leave disappointed. One of my most memorable concerts was in the late 70's when he was opening for BTO. Why he was the opening act I'll never know. It was obvious the crowd was there to see Alvin only. In all the concerts I have been to in my life, I've never seen an opening act come out for three encores, but Alvin did. After an excellent show by Alvin, BTO hit the stage. The crowd practically booed them right off the stage. Second, I would like to thank Toni (Alvin Lee Fan Club) and Izumi (Going Home Page) for their excellent and hard work at keeping the "Positive Vibrations" of Alvin Lee going. Last and most important, Thank You Alvin Lee for many years of excellent music! Especially the song "The Bluest Blues" the greatest blues song ever!! I hope you keep us rockin forever. Doug

David Piccirilli <dpiccirilli@usgs.gov> -- 03/27/97 -- 08:51:27

I just want to say that I find Lee's music to be very moving. His music can be exhilarating and easy to relate to, and contrary to what some people may feel, soulful. He's been going at it now for 30+ years, hopefully he'll go on for another 30+ years.

Jan Schjøtt <Jan.D.Schjott@apotek.haukeland.no> -- 03/27/97 -- 04:55:37

Is the whole version of " I can`t stop from crying sometimes" available on video? I`ve got the video from the Isle of Wight, but only a part of the song is showed.

Phil Franks <freax@arrakis.es> -- 03/25/97 -- 13:42:28

Hi Toni, I see you've been busy here! It sure is easier to sign guestbooks than it is to answer email huh?... and anyway I may even win a prize. ... do I feel a scanning session coming on or do I...[?¿?]

Kari Mattila <karimat@solutions.fi> -- 03/25/97 -- 12:50:01

I've listened him in 70's and then there was a long pause. Now I have just bought TYA Ssssh CD. It's better than I remembered.

John Kenney <JKenney101@AOL.Com> -- 03/25/97 -- 07:08:05

Alexei Borodenkov <nik@beam.ifmo.ru> -- 03/25/97 -- 04:18:21

That's a great page devoted to Alvin Lee! It's good that the fan club has at last got his own page. I'm a 16 year old fan of Alvin Lee's guitar style from Russia. I try to imitate his sound myself, but that's almost impossible!!! I'd love to say much thanks to Toni for her support.Alvin is really one of the greatests man who has ever touched guitar's strings!!

Aurelio Bif <abif@netsix.com.br> -- 03/23/97 -- 16:34:55

Antonio Abel moreira <apacheco@mail.telepac.pt> -- 03/23/97 -- 15:23:49

This is a fantastic site and a deserved tribute to the music of Alvin Lee ! Congratulations for the best club in the web ! Thanks for all my Friend.

Matthew Lacey <WhiteOak77@AOL.COM> -- 03/23/97 -- 06:34:10

Alvin and TYA have been at the top of my list for years, who else has it all? I was just about tapped out on new info and sources when I found this Web Site, accolades to you all should have me sooner, but I don't know that you don't know my name.

Robin Cremer <robin@cjnetworks.com> -- 03/22/97 -- 18:30:47

When I was a lad just learning to play the six-string,Alvin was my hero. I bought a Gibson just like his and proceeded to butcher every TYA song I could learn. This was back in the days before there was a gazillion guitar magazines to teach you a note by note version of your favorite song,if you wanted to learn a song,by golly, you had to learn it from the record.Got to see the band in KC in 74. Incredible. I considered Alvin to be the one of the best.Still do. I'm still butchering his songs, but I'm alot better at it now.Baby, won't you let me rock and roll you now?

John Kenney <JKenney101> -- 03/22/97 -- 07:24:02

It is great to see everyone connecting it has felt at times that Alvin, TYA fans were disappearing, nice to be back with people who understand and appreciate his great artistry. I have seen Alvin since 1968 Aug..to 1996 with Eric B..It is so obvious that he lovs to play for people I once saw him with only 60 other people..Blew the walls dowm!Wellevryone tell your freinds Alvin is better than ever!

Jay Siekierski <thesonics@earthlink.net> -- 03/21/97 -- 20:22:49

I saw TYA on their last REAL U.S. tour in '75 at Roosvelt Stadium N.J. They were touring behind Positive Vibrations and TYA were stuck in between Lynrd Skynrd & Rod the Mod & his Faces (their farewell tour also). Alvin & Co. blew both bands to smithereens! Skynrd never finished their set & when Rod came on the place was emptying out! When TYA were on the place was packed to the sky! A total bloody blast of high enery ROCK 'N' ROLL! Wait till you hear my TYL story when I saw them and when I finally got to meet Alvin on his last U.S. tour last year ('96) after the Fillmore show!

John Kenney <JKenney101> -- 03/21/97 -- 07:01:53

Hi. Toni, I found it after I read your last E-mail to me..This is great and fun..keep it up..John

Jim Kennedy <magicbball@netos.com> -- 03/20/97 -- 20:03:32

Anyone know where and how I can get a copy of Alvin Lee In Flight???? Alvin is the best ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pat Anderson <patipat@aol.com> -- 03/20/97 -- 11:17:50

I wasn't much of a TYA fan in the "early" days...too raunchy for me at the time. What was I thinking! Over the years, I've come to appreciate them more and more, and now I could kick myself for never having gotten the chance to see them. Then, I find this page and discover it may not be too late! Please, please let us know if and when and where they will play the States. I can hardly wait.

Benny Lundin <benny.lundin@ale.mail.telia.com> -- 03/19/97 -- 10:24:28

Jeff Taylor <jefft@techspert.com> -- 03/18/97 -- 20:07:49

I started requesting the transcription to "I'm Goin' Home" (Woodstock version) probably 6 months ago. Toni was the only one who delivered! Thanks Toni! But you know what? My hard drive crashed the other week #*^! So I appeal to you once again for it PLUS I will be indebted forever if you (or someone) can transcribe the LYRICS to this great live version. I see the studio version at another site (GOIN HOME -japan) but can't find the Woodstock version. Anybody listening? Would live to hear from ya... PS. I have the intro and verses down from trying to play along and hope to play this tune live with our band soon! G'Day!

Tom Engelhardt <ANNAPURNA@worldnet.att.net> -- 03/18/97 -- 19:07:40

I started listening to Ten Years After back in the early/mid seventies. I'd Love To Change The World seemed as if it were written just for me. My sister turned me on to the Watt album and later on to A Space In Time. I couldn't believe that someone, or a group of someone' were writing songs that not only were so in tune with what was going on in my life, but that were artistically far superior to anything else that came out of Europe. (Don't get me wrong, I've seen the Who five times... Eric Clapton about eighteen times...Yes,Jethro Tull,Jeff Beck,The Rolling Stones, etc.,etc.,etc.). I have seen just about everyone worth seeing with the exception of Led Zepplin and the original Black Sabbath...I did have seen Ozzy several times-twice with Randy Rhoades. What makes Alvin Lee and Ten Years After so special is not just the blistering guitar licks. Licks that belong in the same class with the likes of Ritchie Blackmore, Randy Rhoades,Stevie Ray Vaughn and Steve Howe. It's much more than that, it's much more personal. The first time I had a chance to see Alvin Lee was with Ten Years Later in Long Beach, 1979. He threw a replica of his guitar out into the crowd and played for two solid hours. Several people went up to the stage and threw dozens of roses on to it. I almost cried. I saw them again in Denver and the last time I saw Alvin Lee was, again in Denver, with Cheap Trick,(I wasn't there to see them), and it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen at a concert. The show was supposed to start at 7:30, but Mr. Lee walked out on to the stage fifteen minutes early and started playing. I have been to three or four hundred concerts in my life and I have never seen anyone come out early. Some old guy sitting behind us had brought his two little girls to see the, 'other' band, and I heard them ask him who that was on the stage playing. He didn't know. It was an absolute pleasure to turn around and tell that little girl that that was Alvin Lee. She was quite impressed to say the least. Those are the simple things that make Alvin Lee so special. You see I am a recovered drug addict. I spent eighteen years shooting dope up my arm, drinking, smoking dope. Many times I played Hard Monkey over and over in my head. Well, I "ain't got no monkey on my back", anymore and I know that there were times when all I could do is keep singing, "Don't break up, don't shake up, you've got a lot to give. Don't break up, don't shake up, you've got a lot to live"! Needless to say there are many more verses that I used to sing to just get me through the withdrawls. I won't bore you with the details, I just want to say that I never got to see the original Ten Years After. When I finally found this web site and heard that they were doing a reuion tour in Europe this spring I almost pissed my pants. Not really, but that best explains my excitement at the news. I've never been to Scandinavia, but I will be there one way or another, May or June, Denmark or Sweden...I will be there! Rock on, Tom

Danny Sandler <DSandler@msn.com> -- 03/18/97 -- 17:35:33

I have no fascinating stories. I never met Alvin. All I know is that of all the musicians that I have ever heard or seen, he gives me the most pleasure. I am glad I was introduced to his music by my older brother way back in 1969. Thanks to my brother and thanks to the people who keep this site up and running. Danny Sandler

David <av606@lafn.org> -- 03/18/97 -- 11:26:16

Happy to see there is a club for Alvin Lee, and a couple of great web pages. I've been listening to Alvin and TYA for more years than I care to count, and there will never be a better guitarist than him anywhere. I just wish he wasn't such an "unsung hero". Oh well, at least some of us know what's good.

Håkan Walletun <walle@algonet.se> -- 03/17/97 -- 15:13:26

Kirk Alexander <kalex@azstarnet.com> -- 05/21/97 -- 23:56:28

Very cool site indeed! I've been a TYA fan from the beginning. Lost track of them over the years, but Undead has always been one of my favorite albums. I would like to correspond with Chick Churchill. I'm a keyboard player in a blues band, and I've just got to know who he was listening to back in the 60's when the whole thing started. Anyone with any info on this, please respond. Thanks

Kari Mattila <karimat@solutions.fi> -- 03/25/97 -- 12:50:01

I've listened him in 70's and then there was a long pause. Now I have just bought TYA Ssssh CD. It's better than I remembered.

I wasn't much of a TYA fan in the "early" days...too raunchy for me at the time. What was I thinking! Over the years, I've come to appreciate them more and more, and now I could kick myself for never having gotten the chance to see them. Then, I find this page and discover it may not be too late! Please, please let us know if and when and where they will play the States. I can hardly wait.

G'Day!

Hi, thanx for great pages of The guitar hero No.1. I´m listening to the "Watt" album at the moment and it´s still as good as it was back at 1970. Best wishes, Håkan

Hello, One of my all time favorite show was last year at the 9:30 Club in Washington,D.C. Alvin was in fine form and his backup of Moody,Hinkley,Dunbar,Franklin was excellent as they also backed Eric Burdon.
